What actually drives the price
- How many systems have to talk to each other. One tool touching one spreadsheet is cheap. Five systems that were never meant to integrate is where the budget goes.
- Data condition. Clean data makes projects cheap. Most projects include paying down someone else's data debt.
- Risk level of the decisions involved. Anything touching money, hiring, health, or legal outcomes needs human sign-off gates and audit trails. Worth every dollar, but it's real engineering.

Red flags
